Welcome to this Introduction to Design tutorial. My name is Bill Spencer (aka Pope de Flash) and I will be your guide. I use the word 'guide' because no one can teach you design or Art. They lay within an individual as gifts. I was hoping to bring you a series of lessons to help you understand and control your gift - but hey - stuff happens! Instead - I bring you an introduction to some of the language and terms used by designers. And to finsh off I give you a small exercise - just to get you thinking.

The next step after designating frames with labels is to disable the Print command in the Flash Player context menu. We do this because ultimately we customise our own button to execute the Print command but more on that later. There are two approaches in this tutorial, you can either remove the context menu altogether or disable the Print command by dimming it. o dim the Print command, open your movie in Flash, select the relevant frame and choose Modify> Frame. The Frame properties dialog box will appear. Click on the Label tab, so far it's just like designating a printable frame, however, in the Name Field enter:

If you have a movie with 100 frames in it, the last thing you want is your visitor to envoke the Print command only to discover 100 pages later that you haven't been paying enough attention to the development of your site. Flash considers every frame printable until you specify a printable frame(s). The key here is to create important, information laden, beautifully laid out, frames with labels to indicate that these frame are printable so you leave the unimportant frames for the puposes of web animation only.

To the novice developer, Flash can appear quite overwhelming. In truth the interface is more like that of a video editing software than a standard graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop. Keeping this in mind you can begin to understand how FLASH animations are created. Let's assume for the sake of this tutorial that you have just opened FLASH and are looking at it for the first time. Scared??? Well don't be. Once you understand these basic concepts the mysteries of interactive animation will reveal themselves to you.
