There are many Flash animations that look stiff and almost appear to have a cut-out effect to their movement. If you are one that would like to add more life to your animations, then this tutorial is for you. Stretch and Squash is a principle used in animation that dates back to Disney's early animated films. The concept is pretty simple. When an object is moving at high speeds in the animation, then you stretch the object as if it is being pulled and stretched out on both ends. When the object makes impact with another object (eg. wall, ground or character), then you squash the object. The simplest way to demonstrate this is with a bouncing ball.
